Come and discover the island where the blue of the sea embraces a varied territory, rich in history, legends, cultures and traditions. The San Leonardello Farmhouse is located in a privileged position both to explore the best places in eastern Sicily and to enjoy the beauty of Etna’s volcanic landscapes.

Beaches & Sea

In a beautiful coastline, where the diversity is surprising, there is a succession of bays with crystal-clear waters, where from south to north white sandy beaches give way to pebble beaches. You can relax on one of the many beaches that follow northwards to the picturesque Isola Bella on the coast of Taormina.
The nearest beach is pebbly and is 3 km from the farm (Praiola- Carrubba). Further north are Marina di Cottone, 10 minutes away, and San Marco, 15 minutes away, which are extensive pebble beaches. Twenty minutes by car you can enjoy the sea at Taormina, a true pearl of the Mediterranean.

Moving southwards towards Catania, the coast is characterised by lava cliffs formed over the centuries by the contact between the magma of the eruptions and the sea water, where the black of the rock stands out against a cobalt blue expanse. It is framed by ancient tuna-fishing nets, picturesque fishing villages, nature reserves and volcanic rock cliffs, on which you can visit Norman castles.

A few kilometres away are the villages of Torre Archirafi, Pozzillo, Stazzo, Santa Tecla, S. Maria la Scala, the protected marine reserve “Isole dei Ciclopi” with the mythological stacks of Acitrezza (15 km) and Acicastello with its Norman castle (18 km). A little further south of Catania you will be enchanted by the expanses of fine sand of the playa and the beaches of the Syracuse area.

Sport & Nature

Surrounded by fragrant green citrus groves, at the foot of a good volcano, nature lovers and nature sports enthusiasts will be able to discover the beauty of Sicily through scenic paths through the woods of the Etna Park, natural oases and many other activities, suitable for both adults and children. San Leonardello will be the ideal starting point to begin the journey to discover the island.

Within the Etna Park you will have the opportunity to explore craters and natural caves, relax in one of the characteristic refuges, hike up to 3,000 metres above sea level and, in the winter months, ski with a view of the sea. From the farm you can easily reach all the adventure parks in the area and the beautiful Alcantara Gorge, natural creeks where you can practice body rafting, river trekking or explore the canyon in quod. You can also explore the unspoilt nature of the nearby Aeolian Islands with day trips.

The Sicilian food and wine tradition will surprise you with the unique taste of the natural products of the land and sea and with all the sweetness of the local pastries. Each town will win you over with its own specialities: Catania with its ricotta cakes, Modica with its artisan chocolate, Acireale with its rustic cakes and granitas.
